Protecnium is an international consulting firm specializing in engineering and technical services (www.protecnium.com/en). We are currently looking for a Mechanical Superintendent – TBM to join our team for a tunnel infrastructure project in Poland (on-site position).


-Project: Large-Scale Tunnel Construction with TBM


-Estimated duration of the position: +24 months - In general, when the project ends, we try to place the employee in other projects to give him/her continuity.


-Summary


The Mechanical Superintendent – TBM will be responsible for supervising all mechanical activities related to TBM and tunnel support systems. The role focuses on ensuring high equipment availability, efficient maintenance planning, troubleshooting mechanical failures, and coordinating mechanical teams to support continuous tunnelling operations.


-Main Responsibilities


  • Supervise mechanical teams and foremen working on TBM and tunnel support systems.
  • Oversee mechanical operation, maintenance, and repair of the TBM and supporting plant and equipment.
  • Plan and implement preventive and corrective maintenance strategies to maximize TBM availability and performance.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical failures and coordinate rapid response actions to minimize downtime and production loss.
  • Coordinate with TBM OEM representatives and specialist suppliers to resolve technical issues and support commissioning activities.
  • Ensure full compliance with health and safety requirements.
  • Maintain mechanical inspection records, maintenance logs, and spare-parts inventories.
  • Support TBM assembly, launch, operation, breakthrough, and demobilization activities.
  • Coordinate closely with site teams to align mechanical works with tunnelling operations.
  • Provide regular reporting on mechanical performance, risks, and maintenance activities to project leadership.


-Working hours: 8 hours rotational shifts ( 7/3 7/4 o 7/2/ 7/2 /7/3)- the specific working hours will be defined later in the process.


-Requirements


  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical supervision within heavy civil or tunnelling projects.
  • Experience working on TBM tunnelling projects (desirable).
  • Proven ability to lead mechanical teams in high-risk underground environments.
  • Strong understanding of construction safety systems and mechanical risk controls.
  • Demonstrated experience in construction site safety practices.
  • English level: C1 (Advanced).
  • Availability to work on-site in Poland.
  • EU work permit required.
  • Knowledge of Polish is a plus.
