Protecnium is an international firm specializing in engineering and technical services (www.protecnium.com/en). We are currently seeking a Field and Office Surveyor to join our team on a Heavy Civil Construction Project in Norfolk, Virginia, USA (on-site position).


  • Project: Heavy Civil Construction Project.
  • Estimated duration of the position: 6-8 months -In general, when the project ends, we try to place the employee in other projects to give him/her continuity.


-Summary: The Field & Office Land Surveyor will provide survey support to the construction team. The position combines field and office responsibilities and is primarily focused on land and construction surveying for a major heavy civil infrastructure project. The surveyor will support construction activities associated with roadways, bridges and structures, tunnel and interior tunnel works, as well as occasional marine-related construction areas when required.


-Responsibilities:

  • Perform construction surveying, layout and verification activities in the field.
  • Establish, maintain and verify survey control points, benchmarks and construction control networks.
  • Perform layout and stakeout for roadway alignments, grades, bridge and structural elements and other heavy civil construction works.
  • Provide surveying support for tunnel alignment and interior tunnel civil/structural works.
  • Provide occasional survey support in marine-related construction areas, including structures, trestles, islands or waterfront construction activities where applicable.
  • Operate total stations, GNSS/GPS equipment and digital levels.
  • Collect, download and process field survey data.
  • Perform survey calculations and coordinate computations.
  • Prepare and update stakeout files and survey models.
  • Prepare survey drawings and documentation using AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
  • Process and maintain as-built survey information.
  • Review design drawings, construction drawings and survey control information.
  • Perform survey checks and QA/QC of field and office information.
  • Coordinate closely with Survey Managers, Survey Party Chiefs, Field Engineers, Superintendents and construction crews.
  • Maintain organized survey records, calculations, field data and project documentation.


Requirements


-Requirements:

  • Degree or diploma in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum 6 years of construction surveying experience.
  • Proven experience in surveying, preferably in major infrastructure projects.
  • Strong knowledge of GPS and total station equipment.
  • Proficiency with survey software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center, Leica Cyclone).
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills.


-Working hours: Monday to Friday, 10 hours (1 hour lunch).**When supporting marine-related operations, shifts may occasionally extend up to approximately 12 hours, depending on construction activities. Occasional Saturday work may be required depending on project needs.**
